Did you lose motivation during Winter and let your health slip? Well Spring is now well and truly upon us and it’s time to get your health back on track for the warmer weather!
We’ve compiled together some easy-to-action tips to help you Spring clean your health –
DIET
- Meal prep to stay organised and healthy
- Make breakfast a habit to kick start your metabolism
- Spring clean your pantry from top to bottom, removing “junk food” and replacing it with highly nutritious foods for a fresh start in Spring after Winter’s indulgences
- Watch your portion sizes by introducing smaller plate sizes
- Cut back on salt where you can
- Add lemon to your water to help detox
Eat seasonally!
Supplement your diet with seasonal fruit and veg for maximum nutrients. Fruit and veg that are in season during Spring include:
Navel oranges and bananas which are excellent sources of Vitamin C and Potassium.
Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, mushrooms and spinach will ensure you get plenty of fibre and minerals.
EXERCISE
If you haven’t been reminded in a while, working out can do wonders for both your body and your mood. When we exercise, endorphins are released and that has an effect on everything we do. It’s one of the fastest ways to clear stress hormones out of our system that can cause health issues. That doesn’t mean you should throw yourself on to the nearest treadmill and push as hard as you can, though. Consistency is the key! Why not aim to take a walk or go to the gym for 30 minutes 5 times per week.
If you need that little push to get you into an exercise routine that is social, enjoyable and driven by an instructor so you don’t have to think of workouts to do – Pilates might just be the perfect form of exercise for you!
Pilates is a system of exercises designed to increase flexibility, strengthen muscles, and improve core stability, posture and balance. At Sandgate Physical Health Clinic our Pilates classes are designed and instructed by our qualified Physiotherapists. Physiotherapists are experts in how the body moves and functions therefore making our classes safe for people of all ages and fitness levels.

MIND
Here’s 5 ways to Spring clean your mind:
- Cultivate quiet time – plan some alone time into your weekly schedule, even if it’s just half an hour!
- Give up a grudge – release your grip on a grudge and let yourself feel a release of emotional energy towards a more positive mindset.
- Offer an apology – if you feel unsettled about something that you’ve said or done, offer an apology to clear the air.
- Tell the truth – allow yourself to be honest.
- Journal your thoughts – putting pen to paper and recording your thoughts often helps clear out your emotional space.
