Whether you are returning to exercise after pregnancy or needing a rehabilitation program to recover from an injury, Pilates is a highly recommended form of exercise by professionals all around the world.

Pilates can help you regain strength, movement and flexibility and enable your muscle groups to work together and your body to work efficiently. Pilates aims to lengthen and stretch all the major muscle groups in the body in a balanced fashion, through mat work or with the use of specialised equipment for resistance.

What is Clinical Physiotherapy Pilates and how is it different to regular Pilates?

In a regular Pilates class, a larger group often performs the same general exercise routine with little consideration for unique weaknesses or injuries. Clinical Physiotherapy Pilates classes however, provide a more individualised approach to your treatment and goals.

Clinical Physiotherapy is ideal for those recovering from recent injuries, surgery or pregnancy or those who have specific functional impairments or weaknesses that may be stopping them from participating in their desired social or sporting activities.

The primary goal of Clinical Physiotherapy is to strengthen your core or deep abdominal muscles. This will add stability and support to our torso, spine and pelvis. Clinical Physio not only helps with your specific concerns or rehabilitation, it will help your overall posture, flexibility, strength, balance and breathing and teach you how these affect your body and movement, so you can avoid injuries in the future.

Before you begin your classes, you will need an assessment from a physiotherapist and they will develop a specific program to suit your ability, history and goals. This will ensure the exercises in your program are highly targeted and reduce the risk of aggravating your injury.

The classes are led by experienced Physiotherapists, often with additional training in Pilates, who will guide you through each technique and teach you how to use any specific equipment, so you will always feel supported.

Function and performance is monitored regularly to ensure participants are achieving the goals and results that they want. Their goal is to restore you to full function.

Participants of our Clinical Physiotherapy Pilates classes have a one on one session with one of our physiotherapists before they can attend class. A tailored, goal orientated exercise program is then devised that will be delivered in a small group session led by one of our Pilates trained Physiotherapists.

Participants can then attend our Clinical classes in either Equipment or Mat format. You can read more about the differences between Mat and Reformer Pilates .
