August 2021 sees SPHC celebrate 25 years in business!
Our founder and Principal Therapist Tom Carson, is very proud to have built up this clinic from its very modest beginnings back in 1996 with a very small team, to our now team of 23!
There have been many changes over the years, including the variety of services, clinic locations and of course the wonderful staff! Please follow our timeline below.
The SPHC that is loved today could not have been possible without all of our amazing staff that have worked here over the years and we’d like to thank you all for your work, dedication and continued friendship! However we are lucky to still have Tom as the Principal Physiotherapist and Neil Whillans, our Acupuncturist, who has been at SPHC for over 20 years now!

TIMELINE – HISTORY OF SPHC!
1996
– Tom Carson, Principal Physiotherapist started Sandgate Physical Health Clinic (SPHC) with the vision of being a multidisciplinary allied health practice, starting with Physiotherapy and Remedial Massage Therapy.
– Our first clinic location was at 119a Brighton Road Sandgate (where the dentist is next door).
1998
– Within a few years the business started to grow and that growth accelerated when we started to employ more Physios.
– The first Physio we employed at SPHC was Enid Hulls. Enid is long retired but still a regular at SPHC, attending weekly Pilates class!
2001
– We added new Services: Dietitian, Acupuncturist (still here today!), Naturopath and Counsellor/Psychology Services.
2002/2003
– SPHC expanded into the shop next door – now Viet Street Eats.
– With the growth of the Business we employed more Physios and soon after began our First Pilates Classes.
2009
-SPHC needed to expand further, so we moved into our current premises with more space and various treatment areas, including a designated space for Pilates Classes and private Massage Rooms.
2020
-SPHC went through a full refurbishment and expanded into the shop next door (previously Remax) adding new Treatment and Rehabilitation areas, our Pilates Equipment Studio and Private Treatment Rooms to expand our Women’s Health Services.
2021
-SPHC have achieved Tom & Sue’s vision, running a large multidisciplinary allied health practice, providing a wide range of Physiotherapy Services, Acupuncture, Remedial Massage Therapy, Pilates and once again have a Dietitian joining the team!
