We want you to get the most you can out of your Physiotherapy sessions at SPHC.

We’ve compiled a list of 5 ways to help you towards maximising the session, and leave the expert advice to us!

1. Come Prepared
Wear comfortable clothing that you will be able to move in.
Wear clothing that will be easily accessible for the Physiotherapist to view your area of need. For example, if you have a sprained ankle, try to avoid long pants and covered in shoes that cover the affected area.
Arrive 10-15 minutes early for your appointment so that you can fill out any necessary paperwork or update your details.

2. Tell Your Story
Your Physiotherapist will take time at the beginning of the appointment to ask you questions about your injury. Here’s some tips and tricks when telling them about your area of concern:
Tell the truth about how you injured yourself
Explain your symptoms and issues in detail
Don’t hide facts about your health or medical history

3. Ask Questions
The best thing you can do to better understand your recovery plan is to ask questions. You are more likely to do an exercise if you know how it is contributing to solving your pain, strengthening your muscle or fixing your biomechanics. Asking questions will also put you on the same page as your Physio. When it comes to treatment we’re on the same team working towards the same goal.

4. Trust your therapist
Remember everybody is different, we don’t give every person the same kind of rehab or the same kind of exercises. In most cases your treatment will be tailor made to you! And when it comes to exercises, technique is everything. From the number of reps, to the difficulty level of the exercise, to the position it is performed in… Trust your therapist because they will always be treating you in your best interest.

5. Do Your Homework!
Understandably everyone would love an instant fix when they come to see a physiotherapist. For most injuries the healing process takes a little longer. Your Physiotherapist will prescribe a few exercises that are specific to your condition. These are designed to prolong the response to the treatment session by decreasing pain, strengthening or increasing your range of motion.
